2020 Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 Revealed And Will Be On Sale Soon

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the first of two tuned versions of the rugged-looking Mercedes-Benz GLB.

The GLB reaches dealerships late this year as a 2020 model, and a year down the track will be both a GLB35 and GLB45 from AMG. The first of these, the GLB35, was revealed on Wednesday ahead of a formal debut at next month’s Frankfurt International Motor Show.

Mercedes-AMG GLB35 is a family-friendly compact seven-seat crossover—but it is powered by a 302-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that propels it from zero to 62 mph in just 5.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 155 mph. The torque, up to 295 lb-ft, is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. The engine and transmission are tuned to produce a delightful crackle when shifting. AMG’s engineering team has also made sure that this crossover can be coaxed into a drift with relative ease, as up to 50 percent of the torque can be sent to the rear wheels. An AMG-specific high-performance braking system is standard.

With the new GLB 35 4MATIC, Mercedes are extending thier product portfolio by adding a highly attractive model for an active target group that attaches special importance to versatility.” Tobias Moers, Mercedes-AMG GmbH’s CEO said in a statement. This also includes the optional seven-seater capability of thier new compact SUV, though without having to sacrifice the genes typical of an AMG. Because in its segment, GLB 35 likewise fulfills the brand promise of driving performance.”

Complementing the GLB 35 AMG’s impressive straight-line performance is an AMG-tuned fixed-rate sport suspension. But AMG’s adaptive “Ride Control” setup is optional should customers want a little more flexibility with controlling the ride and handling.

As with other AMG models, one can adjust the response and behavior of the throttle, engine, transmission, steering, traction and stability controls, and the optional adaptive suspension with AMG’s Dynamic Select profiles.

The GLB35 will reach dealerships in late 2020 as a 2021 model. The GLB45 should arrive around the same time and offer more horsepower of about 416hp.
