The ultimate WRX STI called the STI S209 is officially the most expensive new Subaru ever.
Subaru has announced the pricing details of the limited-edition STI S209 and as expected, it’s pretty steep; $64,880 to be exact, including an $885 destination and delivery charge. That makes it the most expensive production Subaru to be offered on our shores.
The S209 features a highly tuned version of Subaru’s EJ25 2.5-liter four-cylinder that now produces 341 horsepower (254 kilowatts) and 330 pound-feet (447 Newton-meters) of torque. This is 31 hp (23 kW) and 40 lb-ft (54 Nm) more than the standard WRX STI. To make this happen, there’s a larger turbocharger running at 18.9 psi (1.303 bar). A revised intake and larger fuel injectors also help boost the power output. A six-speed manual is the only gearbox option.
Power is sent to all four wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, with the permanent four-wheel drive system featuring front and rear limited-slip differentials, DCCD, Active Torque Vectoring and Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control. Subaru has also recalibrated the SI-Drive system and its three modes: Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp.
The chassis has been upgraded with several goodies, including wider tracks by 0.6 inches front and rear, additional front fender vents, six-piston Brembo brakes, model-specific Bilstein dampers with stiffer springs, a 20mm rear stabilizer and pillow-type bushings for the lateral links. The front crossmember and rear subframe is reinforced, while the company has also added a front-strut tower bar.
To accommodate the wider tracks, the body of the new STI S209 is also wider by 1.7 inches, compared to the standard WRX STI. A set of lightweight 19-inch forged BBS wheels is wrapped in 265/35 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600A summer tires. The bodywork also features front, rear and side under spoilers, front bumper canards and a carbon-fiber roof panel.
Buyers have a choice between WR Blue Pearl exterior paint and matte gray wheels or a Crystal White Pearl body and matte gold finish for the wheels.
