BMW has remained tight-lipped about performance specs for the upcoming M4. However, while teasing its upcoming M4 GT3 race car, the German automaker let slip that the new road-going BMW M4 will be getting at least 500 horsepower from the twin-turbo six-cylinder engine. And, if the teaser picture is an indication, the M4 will, indeed, be getting the controversial grille we first laid eyes on at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show when BMW unveiled the BMW Concept 4.The current BMW M4 makes 455 horsepower, so a bump up to 500+ horsepower is going to be a substantial one.
BMW won’t race the M4 GT3 itself. Instead, the automaker will target customer teams looking for a competitive option for GT3 competition. BMW’s current offering in the segment is the M6 GT3.
“With our new GT3 project, we are emphasising the significance of BMW M Customer Racing,” said Jens Marquardt, BMW’s motorsport chief. “With the introduction of the new GT3 regulations for 2022, the BMW M4 is the perfect base.”
