We already knew that the Macan crossover was destined to go pure-electric, and thanks to a new report, we now have a clearer idea of when we’ll see the Macan EV hit the road.
According to previous reports, Porsche has been readying the launch of the electric Macan for as early as 2021. However, Automobilwoche says production of the electric SUV won’t commence until late 2022. That means customer deliveries won’t start until 2023.
Sitting at the top of the range will be a Porsche Macan Turbo sporting a pair of electric motors and said to be good for at least 700 hp and 750 lb-ft (1,016 Nm) of torque. Details about the size of the SUV’s battery pack, and consequently its range, are unclear.
The truth is that the Macan is Porsche’s best-selling model and it could upset customers if, all of a sudden, the Macan becomes electric and only electric. As such, ICE variants could remain in production for at least three years following the arrival of the electric model.
