McLaren has announced another special edition model, this time based on the 720S; the new Le Mans Special Edition is McLaren’s way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the F1 GTR’s victory at the 1995 endurance race.
Inside, buyers can choose between McLaren Orange or Dove Gray for the standard Alcantara trim. Also included as standard are carbon fiber bucket seats and a 12 o’clock steering wheel marker that matches the interior accent color. For a more intense motorsport connection, McLaren also offers a titanium harness bar and 6-point harnesses, as well as carbon fiber replacements for the air vents, shifter paddles, and door sill trim.
The exclusive features don’t stop here: the special edition supercar will also get a set of delicious and unique five-spoke LM wheels, a fully functional gloss black roof scoop, gold-colored brake calipers, carbon-fiber louvered front fenders, and carbon-fiber racing bucket seats.
McLaren also says that the VIN of each car will begin with the number “298” as a nod to the number of laps completed by the race-winning F1 GTR.
No changes have been made to the powertrain, which means the car’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 still delivers 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. Drive is to the rear wheels only, via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Performance figures include 0-62 mph acceleration in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph.
The limited-production McLaren will be available in Europe, with United Kingdom pricing from £254,000 GBP ($318,830 USD, at current exchange rates). The McLaren 720S Le Mans will be limited to 50 units. Deliveries are due to commence in September.
