BMW is introducing a new track beast that will sit above the M2 CS Racing in the company’s motorsport lineup. In preparation for the SRO race weekend at VIRginia International Raceway, the M4 GT4 has ditched the camouflage seen recently at the Nürburgring endurance race in favor of a proper M livery. The race car borrows some components from the M4 GT3, namely the carbon fiber roof and rear wing.

Designed to win races and titles, the model incorporates new technologies from the production M4 and components from its bigger brother, the M4 GT3. BMW engineers focused on performance, reliability, maintainability, and cost efficiency to make the M4 GT4 an appealing customer race car, according to the company.

The car has a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six engine that produces up to 543 hp (405 kW/550 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque, depending on the regulations of the series you want to enter. This power is routed through a ZF seven-speed automatic transmission with motorsport software. It also has a DREXLER limited-slip differential with temperature-controlled auxiliary cooling and driveshafts optimized for motorsport.

Some may be surprised to learn that the M4 GT4 comes standard with not only air conditioning, but also a heated windscreen and a ventilated Recaro seat. The traction control system has ten adjustable modes, and the front and rear anti-roll bars are adjustable on a five-level scale. BMW Motorsport outfitted the race car with H&R suspension springs in three different rates, as well as KW shock absorbers.
